Glufast is
a rapid-acting insulin secretagogue used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes
mellitus. It helps to bring insulin secretion closer to the body's natural
patterns and effectively manages high blood glucose levels that occur after
meals .The sole active ingredient in the prescription drug Glufast tablet
is mitiglinide calcium hydrate.
The tablets also contain various inactive ingredients (excipients) such as
lactose, corn starch, cellulose, calcium stearate, and
hydroxypropylcellulose.
Uses of Glufast:
Glufast
is indicated for improving post-meal plasma glucose transition in adult patients
with type 2 diabetes mellitus who do not achieve sufficient control with diet
and exercise therapy alone, or in combination with α-glucosidase
inhibitors.
Benefits of Glufast:
The
primary benefit of Glufast is its rapid onset of action, which promotes timely
insulin secretion from the pancreas's beta cells to suppress spikes in blood
glucose levels after eating. This mechanism helps to control overall blood
sugar levels (indicated by HbA1c) and is less likely to cause hypoglycemia
(abnormally low blood sugar) compared to some conventional sulfonylurea drugs
due to its short duration of action.
Side Effects of Glufast:
Common
adverse reactions associated with Glufast include:
Ø Hypoglycemic symptoms
(dizziness, hunger pangs, tremor, weakness, cold sweat, loss of consciousness)
Ø Gastrointestinal disorders
(abdominal distension, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting)
Ø Headache
